🕯️ The Tale of the Croglin Grange Vampire

A haunting legend from the dark heart of Cumbria…

Long ago, nestled beneath the shadowy arms of the Pennines, stood an ancient manor known as Croglin Grange, its walls cloaked in ivy, its windows deep-set like watching eyes. The villagers would tell you the stones themselves remembered things, and that on certain moonless nights, the Grange stirred with more than wind.

It was midsummer when the events began ....

the kind of heat that lulled the Lake District into an eerie stillness.

A young woman, Miss Emilia Cranswell, had taken residence in the old hall with her brothers. She wrote often of the strange alluring scented evenings, the stillness broken only by the occasional fox bark or the rustle of fruit in the orchard.

But one night, as the moon waned and the winds grew quiet, she was awoken by a strange sound, a soft scratching… slow… deliberate… against her windowpane.

Through the glass she saw him... tall, gaunt, eyes like black lanterns. His skin grey as stone, lips crimson, and long fingers tapping. Frozen in fear, she watched as he vanished, only to hear her window creak open moments later…

They found her at dawn, pale as snow, with two small marks at her throat and a scent in the room that was both sweet… and sinister.

" Blackcurrants and orange peel, ripe raspberries, a trace of jasmine, and something deeper, aged sandalwood and musk, like old leather-bound books and ancient secrets."

Despite the horror, she survived. But the creature returned, not once, but many times, until the brothers traced him across the fells to a half-buried crypt hidden in the woods. They waited for the night to fall. Then, with trembling hands, they opened the crypt to reveal a withered body… with fresh blood at the corners of its mouth.

They say they burned it, sealed the tomb, and the visits stopped. But sometimes… when mist clings low in the fields near Croglin… and the air smells of dark fruit, jasmine, and fire-warmed vanilla, villagers claim they feel watched. And the scratching begins again.
